| | | | | | | | III. | BACKGROUND AND IMPLICATIONS OF ACTION |
|
| | | | | | | | | A) | Board Action and Other History | | | Neuroprotective CPR is a technique that involves the raising of the head during cardiac arrest to decrease intercranial pressure. The technique has demonstrated a significant improvement in cardiac arrest resuscitation rates, and improvement in neurologically intact survival to hospital discharge. A device to raise the head to the proper position was invented, and, when bundled with a mechanical compression device, demonstrated the highest opportunity for improved outcomes.
The Florida Department of Health is promoting the use of these techniques by providing training and equipment to selected agencies. Lee County EMS has been offered the opportunity to participate.
Training will be provided by the state’s approved vendor, Med Alliance Group, Inc., at a cost of $507,000. The cost of the training will be reimbursed by the Florida Department of Health upon completion. Additionally, Florida Department of Health will be providing the more than 50 full sets of equipment for deployment into the field at no cost to the County beyond future maintenance. This provided equipment equates to a savings of more than $1 million.
