| | | | | | | | III. | BACKGROUND AND IMPLICATIONS OF ACTION |
| | | | | | | | | A) | Board Action and Other History | | | The Division of Emergency Medical Services is licensed to provide Advanced Life Support by the Florida Department of Health. The City of Fort Myers Fire Department (FMFD) provides Advanced Life Support medical care under the license held by the County. This care is provided in a manner consistent with the requirements of Lee County Ordinance 08-16 and all applicable state laws and rules.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) provides FMFD with the ability apply for grant funding with the consent of the County under the County's EMS license. These opportunities are only available to licensed agencies. This MOU requires that the City of Fort Myers obtain consent from the County for these applications, and provides consent to an award that is currently pending with the BEMO.

| | | | | | | | | B) | Policy Issues | | | Emergency Medical Services has seven local agencies that operate under the county's ALS license from the Florida Department of Health. These agencies provide advanced life support in coordination with the county's ambulance transport program. Fort Myers Fire Department will be the only agency approved to apply for these funding opportunities under the County's license at this time.
