| TITLE: | Approve Agreement with School District of Lee County for the Summer Driver's Education Program |

A) Authorize the release of $101,447.56 from the funds collected through Lee County Ordinance No. 02-28 Dori Slosberg Driver Safety Education Act, and approve an agreement with the School District of Lee County for use of funds for its Driver's Education Summer Program.
B) Authorize the Chair to execute the contract documents on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners. |

| | | | | | | | II. | ITEM SUMMARY | | Approves contract with the School District of Lee County and releases funds that will be used for direct educational expenses for the driver's education summer program running from June 4, 2019, through July 2, 2019, at 14 high schools. The programs are anticipated to serve an estimated 336 students over the four week period. |

| | | | | | | | | A) | Board Action and Other History | | | The Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act was passed by the Florida Legislature and became effective October 1, 2002. The Lee County Board of County Commissioners duly passed and adopted County Ordinance No. 02-28 authorizing the collection of an additional $3.00 for each civil traffic penalty issued within Lee County. On May 8, 2012, Blue Sheet No. 20120323, County Ordinance No. 12-10 was adopted amending County Ordinance No. 02-28 and authorizing the Clerk of Courts to increase the civil traffic penalty assessment collected from $3.00 to $5.00 beginning on or after July 1, 2012.
Participation on this program is limited to high schools in Lee County that have an exisiting driver education program. Funds must be used to enhance school driver education programs in Lee County high schools. Funds must be used for direct educational expenses.
Staff is requesting that the Board authorize the release of $101,447.56 from the funds collected through Lee County Ordinance No. 02-28 Dori Slosberg Driver Safety Education Act and approve the agreement between the Board of County Commissioners and the School District of Lee County for the Summer School drivers education program.
