TITLE:Approve Conveyance of Four Escheated Properties to the City of Ft. Myers 
I.MOTION REQUESTED
 

  1. Adopt One (1) Resolution Declaring County Properties Surplus;

  2. Approve conveyance of four (4) properties from Lee County's inventory to the City of Fort Myers, in accordance with Florida Statute 197.592(3);

  3. Authorize the Chairman on Behalf of the Board to execute County Deeds;

  4. Authorize payment of necessary fees and costs to close, estimated to be $100;

  5. Authorize County Lands to handle all documentation necessary to complete transactions.

II.ITEM SUMMARY
 

Transfers ownership of four (4) escheated properties held by Lee County to the City of Fort Myers, in accordance with Florida Statute 197.592(3).  These properties escheated to Lee County in January 2019 due to non-payment of real estate taxes.

Pursuant to Florida Statute 197.592(3), when a parcel of land escheats to Lee County, and is not needed for County purposes, and that land is located within an incorporated municipality, the property "shall be conveyed to the governing board of the municipality in which the land is located."

Lee County received four (4) escheated vacant residential properties within a municipality, the City of Fort Myers. 

 

As part of the County's inventory control and maintenance, the Department of County Lands is requesting approval to convey the subject properties to the City of Ft. Myers.  By doing so, overall costs and liabilities to Lee County will be reduced and the County will be complying with Florida Statute 197.592(3).

 

County Lands staff notified various County departments on January 14, 2019 and received no interest indicating a County purpose or need for these parcels of land.
