TITLE:	Approve Bald Eagle Management Plan for Bald Eagle Nest near Pineland Marina

I.	MOTION REQUESTED
	Approve a bald eagle management plan associated with a renovation at Pineland Marina located at 13851 Waterfront Drive, Bokeelia, Florida, which is within 660 feet of nest LE 107 located off Pacosin Court in a vacant single family lot.

ITEM SUMMARY

Approve a bald eagle management plan for nest LE-107 located on property off Pacosin Court, Bokeelia, Florida. The bald eagle management plan is in conjunction with a renovation at Pineland Marina, located within 660 feet of the nest. No exterior construction is proposed within 660 feet of the nest during the Southern bald eagle nesting season, October 1 through May 15. Interior work may be conducted throughout the nesting season without eagle nesting monitoring. Board approval of the management plan is required under the County’s Eagle Protection Ordinance; approval is recommended by the Eagle Technical Advisory Committee.

		The bald eagle nest, LE-107, is located on a property off Pacosin Court in Bokeelia. This nest was first observed during the 2015-2016 nesting season. It remains an active nest where two chicks fledged in the past two nesting seasons. The bald eagle management plan is triggered by a proposed Pineland Marina renovation project within 660 feet of the nest. The 660-foot radius is a requirement of the County’s Eagle Protection Ordinance.

		The management plan proposes no exterior construction within 660 feet of the bald eagle nest during the nesting season, October 1 to May 15. Interior work may be conducted throughout the nesting season without eagle nesting monitoring. On January 16, 2019 the Eagle Technical Advisory Committee recommended 3-0 to approve the proposed bald eagle management plan. Staff also recommends approval of the proposed bald eagle management plan.
