The state legislative session will begin on March 5, 2019 and is scheduled to conclude on May 3rd.  While the suggested priorities are intended to guide the County’s advocacy efforts in Tallahassee, the list is not exhaustive and issues may arise or evolve that will require Board attention.

Rather than ranking the most critical issues in order of priority, it is recommended that staff and the lobbying team pursue all of the legislative policies approved by the Board and place appropriate priority on issues as opportunities develop. As usual, items of emphasis will include maintaining the County’s home rule authority, opposing cost shifts or unfunded mandates, and advocating for critical infrastructure projects and funding.

The Lee County Legislative Delegation Meeting has been set for Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Florida SouthWestern State College. Commissioner Kiker, as BoCC Chair and Legislative Liaison, will present the County’s priorities to the delegation at this meeting.
